This is a tree we spotted on our way to Hajo a very famous small town of Assam known for its great religious importance.Have you seen a tree like this before and do you know the name of the tree....if yes,please share.

there is one here at Honolulu's Foster Botanical garden. We call it a "cannonball tree."

That is a good capture. Yes, as Cloudia has mentioned, the botonical name is Couroupita Guianensis.
Here in karnataka, these flowers are commonly called as 'Lingada Hoovu' ie., Linga - Shiv ling & Hoovu - flower. it is named so because the appearance from one of the angle. Let me head over to the other blog now :)
I have never seen this tree before, but Cloudia seems to recognize it.
I love the flowers of this tree .. in the shape of a Siva linga sheltered by the hood of a snake :)
The flower is called naagalinga poo, here in Tamilnadu and lingada hoo (Mohan has mentioned it already) in Kannada. This is Lord Shiva's favorite flower!

I saw a tree like that in Hawaii at a botanical garden but have no idea what it's called.
I have seen this tree in Bangalore. Always wondered what it's called
to be honest, never. It is absolutely amazing.

This tree is my mom's favorite and she tells me the flowers are called Shiv ling flowers cause they somehow resemble Shiv ling ji!!
We call it 'shiv lingam poovu' in telugu, in Andhra Pradesh
