Beautiful Tree....have you seen this before



This is a tree we spotted on our way to Hajo a very famous small town of Assam known for its great religious importance.Have you seen a tree like this before and do you know the name of the tree....if yes,please share.

Lovely pictures Kavita. I do not have any idea. But I can guess that it may be a Sal tree. Again, if I guess anytime I am always wrong.

Yes, Kavita!

there is one here at Honolulu's Foster Botanical garden. We call it a "cannonball tree."

Careful! The balls are heavy if they fall :-)

That is a good capture. Yes, as Cloudia has mentioned, the botonical name is Couroupita Guianensis.

Here in karnataka, these flowers are commonly called as 'Lingada Hoovu' ie., Linga - Shiv ling & Hoovu - flower. it is named so because the appearance from one of the angle. Let me head over to the other blog now :)

The flower is called naagalinga poo, here in Tamilnadu and lingada hoo (Mohan has mentioned it already) in Kannada. This is Lord Shiva's favorite flower!

Hai!!
I am here becaue I liked your display pic that I saw in someone elses comment form!!

This tree is my mom's favorite and she tells me the flowers are called Shiv ling flowers cause they somehow resemble Shiv ling ji!!
We call it 'shiv lingam poovu' in telugu, in Andhra Pradesh

Will surely checkout your post on Assamese marriage!!!
